Renew your CDF membership with Direct Debit

Currently CDF members can renew their membership by using bank transfer or cheque on or around 1st October. This year we would like members to renew their membership with Direct Debit. By moving to direct debit CDF is able to take the correct subscription rate from your bank account without you having to do anything. No need for you to remember, no more incorrect subscription amount and no more forgotten subs.

Also by renewing your membership online by direct debit you will have the opportunity to update your gift aid declaration which is really important for us as a charity.

If you have already set up a direct debit to pay your subscription then no further action is required on your part. If not then please read on!

Here is what we would like you to do – in this order!

  1. Go to your existing bank account and cancel any regular payments otherwise known as standing orders that you have set up for CDF. We cannot cancel these for you. If you don’t cancel these and then set a direct debit as well you will pay CDF twice.

2. Think about making a monthly or annual donation to CDF. Many members also donate to the work of CDF. The subscription funds the core administration of the organisation but the donations support the outreach work we do. If you would prefer to make a one off one donation to CDF then that would be great too but the process is a little different.

3. Join CDF using this linkWhen setting up your membership should you want to include an additional donation please choose to make your donation on a monthly or annual basis. If you choose to make a single donation to CDF at this stage then you cannot choose the direct debit option. In this case set up the direct debit for your subscription only and then  make your one off donation separately by visiting the donate page of the CDF website.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are you asking members to move to using direct debit?

The direct debit system is more efficient. It means our admin team will no longer need to chase members for forgotten subscriptions or payments which have not been adjusted to the new membership rates.  We will also no longer need to send out reminder communications to members about renewing their subscription as this will happen automatically.

Can I pay my subscription on a monthly basis?

Ideally we want members to pay their subscription once a year in full. This makes managing membership payments much easier for the central administration team. If you currently pay your subscription by instalments please consider moving to paying for the subscription on an annual basis. If you currently pay your membership in installment and are not able to pay in full on an annual basis then please contact us and we can provide you with alternative arrangements.

I currently pay my subscription at a different time of the year, not around October.  Can  I keep doing this?

By setting up a direct debit you will only pay once a year on or around the time you set up the direct debit. You could choose to set up your direct debit subscription later in the year. If you intend to do that then please contact us and let us know. However the easiest thing would be to set up a direct debit now.

Can I pay my subscription using by Stewardship or CAF Donate account

No. Under the terms of use for Stewardship and CAF Donate these platforms should only be used for donations and not payment of items.

Can I pay for my subscriptions or donate to CDF by cheque

Yes if that is your only means of payment but we are trying to phase out the use of cheques wherever possible.

Do I have to  use direct debit to donate to CDF

No. You can donate to CDF using a bank transfer, card payments Stewardship or CAF Donate account as well as using direct debit. Please contact us if you would like to donate by bank transfer and we can send you the details.

Can I set up my membership subscription using direct debit and donate using a different means of payment?

Yes!

Using direct debit means CDF will be charged transaction fees. Would it not be better if members paid by bank transfer where there are no transaction fees?

We want to make donating to CDF as easy as possible for members and by offering donation using direct debit at the same time as you renew your membership we hope that more people will start giving to the wider work of CDF on a voluntary basis.

We also hope that by using a direct debit system for subscriptions we will save costs on admin time as the whole process will be more efficient.

It may be better to make larger donations using bank transfer. Please contact us if you would like to find out how to do this.
